Durga Puja Wishes 2026 in Bengali and English (Copy-Paste Ready)

Every line below is written to be sent as it is. Pick the day, pick the language your recipient actually reads, and send. Nothing here needs editing unless you want to add a name.
The 2026 puja runs from Maha Shashthi on Friday 16 October to Vijaya Dashami on Wednesday 21 October. Sunday 18 October falls between Saptami and Ashtami as a rest day in the ritual calendar. All the dates are on our Durga Puja dates page.
The Bengali is written in ordinary standard Bengali, not in the ornate register that social media greeting cards tend to drift into. If you are sending to someone outside Bengal, the English versions below carry the same meaning.
Maha Shashthi, Friday 16 October — the day she arrives
Bengali
- “শুভ ষষ্ঠী। আজ মা দুর্গা আসছেন — আপনার সকলের জীবন আলোকিত হোক।”
- “মা আসছেন, আর অন্ধকার থেকে আলো আসছে। শুভ ষষ্ঠী।”

Maha Saptami, Saturday 17 October — the second day

Maha Ashtami, Monday 19 October — the busiest day
This is the day the pandals are at their most crowded, and the day most messages are sent. Keep it short.
Bengali
- “শুভ অষ্টমী। আজ মায়ের আশীর্বাদ নিন, আর দিনটা শান্তিতে কাটান।”
- “অষ্টমী মানে — আট দিন ধরে যে আলো জ্বলছে, আজ তার পূর্ণতা। শুভ অষ্টমী।”

Sandhi Puja, Monday 19 October
Sandhi is the quiet window between Ashtami and Nabami, and it is where many families do their most personal worship. A short message suits it better than a festive one.
- “শুভ সন্ধ্যা — দুই দিনের মাঝখানে এক নিস্তব্ধ সময়। মায়ের সঙ্গে একটু একা সময় কাটুক।”

Maha Nabami, Tuesday 20 October — the grand day

Vijaya Dashami, Wednesday 21 October — and Shubho Bijoya
The last day, and the one most messages are actually about. Shubho Bijoya is not just a farewell to the goddess; it is a wish that the festival leaves something behind in you.
Bengali
- “শুভ বিজয়া। আজ ভাঙছে, কিন্তু ভাঙলেই মিলন হয়।”
- “বিজয়া মানে শুধু ভাঙা নয় — বিজয়। মা দুর্গার আশীর্বাদ সবার জন্য।”
- “যা ভেঙে যাচ্ছে, তা আপনাকে কিছু দিয়ে যাচ্ছে। শুভ বিজয়া।”

These work because they are specific rather than grand. Fill in the bracket and post.

A template, if you would rather write your own
Most people manage three sentences and then stall. The structure is simpler than it looks.
- One specific fact about this year. Not “it is that time of the year again” but “our pandal is on the corner of the second lane this year, and the theme is the old tram depot”. Specific beats poetic in a message.
- One thing you are actually grateful for. Singular. A list of five makes it sound like a form letter.
- One wish for the person. Not for the world, for them.
- The greeting, in their language. শুভ বিজয়া, Shubho Bijoya, or both.
That is the whole formula. Three sentences and a greeting beats a copied paragraph of shubdo.
What to send, and when
- Older family, other languages: send the English on Shasthi and the Bengali on Bijoya. That is when each will actually be read.
- Work groups: wait until Ashtami. Nobody wants a greeting in a meeting chat on the 16th.
- Send the Bengali to Bengali readers. A Bengali message written in English script, or worse, transliterated, reads as an afterthought. Write it in Bengali script.
- Do not mass-send a voice note. Six days, three hundred people, and the audio gets muted by Saptami.
